Description:

This server is deep  at 27” long it requires a 30” deep rack. Here is another great addition to our $99 server line. The Sun V20z was Sun’s rebirth product for Solaris 10. It was their first offering on 64 bit AMD/Intel x86 based processors. It was ubiquitous for Solaris 10 Software Development.  It uses two AMD 64 bit Opteron 200 series Sledgehammer 1MB cache CPUS with gigatransport front side bus. These processors just blew the doors off the 1.2Gghz SPARC processors of the day

The Sun v20z was co-developed and manufactured by AMD and their partner Newisys. This machine was the reference design for 64 bit AMD systems.  It has support for every operating system.  It’s LSI SCSI driver and AMD gigabit ethernet chips are supports on every OS distribution. The server has guaranteed compatibility and support with VMWare, Windows XP & Server editions,  Redhat RHEL, SUSe and Solaris x86.

The Sun v20z was also the rebirth of Sun’s Lights out management. It has all of the bells and whistles. It not only supports commands via serial port, you can talk to it via Ethernet and telent,  SSH and HTTP/ www.  It even uses a java server to update all of the files in the LOM for firmware upgrades.

The V20z supports up to 32GB of memory. This configuration has 2GB of RAM.  Memory upgrade such as the x9296a, x9252a 2x 1GB DIMMS and the x9297a, x9253a 2x 2GB DIMMS are available for order.  The on board LSI SCSI card supports RAID 0, 1 and 5.  The machine uses two 80 pin SCSI disk drives. Two hard drive brackets are included.

The v20z CPUs might be able to be upgraded to the Dual core Opteron CPUs. The systems we are selling here probably do not support it. These are code named Italy and have  part numbers OSA265 through OSA290.  The dual core CPUS require the extended low voltage VRM support. V20z 3rd generation system board also called B/c series or 2.0/2.5 version is required to support the low voltage Core CPUs.  The Code name for the V20z  was Khepri.  The dual core support systems were referred to as Khepri 2.0 380-1169 and Kepri 2.5 380-1194. Dual core support system boards have pn 370-7691 or 370-7788

If you are looking for a home or desk based server we do not recommend this machine. It is very deep at 27” long. It is noisy because it has many fans with allot of air vents. Considered one of our 2U SGI Rackable servers.
